Hello! So, I've been away from the blogosphere for quite some time. I had a good reason for it actually.
I was in South Africa!
A very dear friend of mine was getting married and I went there both as a friend and as a photographer (Old readers of this blog may know her by the name Sydafrika, as I usually call her).
It's been the most amazing few days and my camera is jam packed with photos. South Africa is unbelievably beautiful so you can imagine my camera rarely left my face.
Okay, brace yourself.
Here comes the first of many South Africa posts. This one focusing on the nature surrounding the Backpacker place where we lived.
Cute houses.
This is David's and my house.
Surrounded by mountains. Hoedspruit is the name of the town and everywhere you look there are mountains.
The evening sun when we arrived to Hoedspruit was so warm and pretty.
The backpacker place is called Mariepskop view.
David found a friend.
One day David and I went on a walk together with a woman working at the backpacker place and her 5 dogs.
Breathtaking. I have maybe 100 photos like these ones. I can't get enough of these mountain views.
Imagine being a dog living here. Must be such a great life roaming around.
Termite hills. Apparently the sand from one of those is good to eat. Lots of nutritions in it (I did not try it though).
I love these thorns! Super sharp and with a fondness of getting tangled up in my hair so I need to get saved to be free. I brought quite a few of them home to Sweden. I am a collector, you know. I'll show you all of the things I found in another post.
On our way back to our house we passed the reception building. It gets dark really early in South Africa and this is just before the sunset, at around 5.30 in the afternoon.
You know me. Show me a rusty wreck and I'll be in photography heaven.
The day before the wedding David and I went to have a look at the wedding location. It had been raining the entire week. Before we arrived to South Africa there hadn't been any rain at all for 9 months. We came with the Swedish weather apparently... The nature was very happy and every tree and plant around came to life.
We heard that the weather was going to brighten upo on the day of the wedding and we really hoped the rumours were true...
David is sceptic, standing on the island where the ceremony is to take place the day after.
Look at that view!
Aaaaaah, so beautiful! I really can't understand that I've actually been to such an amazing place.
Willows.
Aloe Vera plant...
...not an alien.
South Africa turned out to be a lot cooler than we expected but it didn't really matter. Their spring is a bit like our autumn and I love autumn! It was very hot a few days though so we got to experience the entire weather spectra with sun, heat, wind, storm, drizzle and heavy rain.
One thing I really loved was the colours of nature. So many earth tones; blue, lilac and brown. The colours of the mountains ever changing, sometimes covered by foggy clouds and sometimes the air was all clear and it felt like you could see every bump and rock.
It is so hard to explain to you but I hope the pictures can show you some of the beauty we've seen.
Now I'm off to the first work shift after we came home from the trip. It feels kind of surreal to be back in Gothenburg. One thing is for sure: I have missed my bed and my shower!
In Rörum, Österlen there is a house on a field that always makes me want to jump out of the car and take photos of it. Sometimes there's lots of black crows or rooks on the field and my dream is to be there on a foggy day and shoot a photo exactly when the birds lift from the field with the house in the foreground. That would be so cool.
One of the days on our last trip to Österlen we took an evening stroll to the house and even though there were no rooks I think the pictures turned out really moody and nice.
Isn't it such a cinematic feel to this place!?
I'm pretty sure you will see more of this house on this blog in the future. I'm so not done with it yet! I still need those crows to cooperate with me!
Hello! Busy days now but I just wanted to pop in and show you some photos.
A week ago David and I went to Rörum for a few days. We are writing on our movie and had to get away to concentrate on the screenwriting for a while. When we arrived the weather was amazing (too hot for me, but perfect for everybody else) so we went for a walk over the hills.
A tree eating another tree.
David brought his film camera and was quite annoying following me around filming me while I was taking photos. A car even stopped for us so it wouldn't disturb us. Haha, we waved to them that they could drive past us. They probably thought we were filming something important.
Well, we weren't.
Fluff!
Our goal! The Lonely Tree.
When we came to the top David started filming the amazing view and I said hello to the sheep.
Suddenly something was happening behind David's back. Hahaha, this makes me laugh so hard!
Dinner time!
Hello.
David tried to befriend a shy sheep.
He tried very hard.
It didn't work out so well. The sheep went all ostrich mode and hid his head in the tree trunk.
We left the sheep and the tree and found some chicken bums instead.
And that was that walk. I've got lots of more photos from our little trip to show you. You know I can't keep my camera down when I'm at Österlen.
Bye for now!
Hope you are having a less stressful time than I have. It will all pay off soon though. I'll tell you more about that some other day.
Last thursday through saturday was
Way out west festival and David and I was there. This is the best thing of the year for me because they almost always seem to get all my favourite bands and artists. This year was a really good one.
I didn't get photos of all the acts we saw but here is a little glimpse into the festival through my camera.
Florence and the machine! So so so amazing!
David found a chair!
Feist!! She is so incredibly cool. I'm a little bit in love with her.
And Jeff Tweedy from Wilco came and sang a duet with her!
First act on saturday was Jonathan Richman. I love him so much. I've seen him once before and one of the amazing things about him is how dorky and happy he is all the time. The sweetest man ever!
Excuse the fuzzy picture but I just had to show you his sweet dance moves!
And this is how happy and thankful he was when it was time for him to leave the stage.
For you who doesn't know who he is: have you seen the movie There's something about Mary? He's the singer following the protaganist around all the time. And
here you can listen to one of my favourite songs with Jonathan.
Listen to all of it and smile.
Miike Snow behind there.
Then it was time to put on the 3D glasses! An entire audience of pretty nerds. Lovely!
Kraftwerk!
We almost panicked for a while, it was so much people! Didn't see a thing and had to squeeze ourselves to the far back where we actually could see a whole lot better.
Then it was time to go home and I'm sure I slept with a big happy smile on my lips.
One year until next time. Can't wait!
Love the hazy, soft landscape. These photos are stunning, Lotta! Well done.
Fint!!!
Renathe: Thank you! Yes, it is such amazing light and softness to the nature.
